What this survey tells you
The survey compares seven sampled keys with mathematical equal-temperament targets at your chosen A4 reference. The median shows the middle sampled offset. The observed spread shows how far apart the highest and lowest sampled offsets are. Individual readings remain visible because a single summary number cannot describe an entire piano.
What it cannot tell you
A microphone can lock onto a strong partial instead of the fundamental, especially in the lowest and highest registers. This survey also does not measure the separate strings in a unison, the piano's stretch curve, tuning-pin stability, action regulation, humidity history, or structural condition.
The Piano Technicians Guild explains that a piano far from its intended pitch may require a separate pitch-raise or pitch-lowering procedure before fine tuning. Read its piano care guidance and ask a qualified technician before adjusting tuning pins.
How to get cleaner readings
- Use a quiet room and place the device near the open piano.
- Play only the requested key and let the initial attack settle.
- Capture the reading when the frequency display is steady.
- Repeat a key if the detected note jumps by an octave or semitone.
- Share the full table—not only the median—with a technician.
